PHS - Wednesday 02, August 2006 Meeting

Hello once again,

The Panama Historical Society cordially invites you to its August meeting, to be held on Wednesday, August 02, 2006 at 7:30 PM - "Niko's Cafe" (the old Balboa Bowling Alley" site in the port area of Balboa...

Our invited speaker will be Dr. Stanley Heckadon-Moreno, who is the Director of Communications and Public Programs at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

Dr. Heckadon-Moreno will present his latest book, Selvas Entre Dos Mares, but whose subtitle Expediciones Científicas al Istmo de Panamá del Siglo XVIII al XX, probably explain better its contents. The work is divided into three parts: first, cientific expeditions from the end of the Spanish colonial period to the close of Panamás Colombian period. Second, expeditions taking place during or inmideately after the construction of the Panama Canal. The third part is dedicated to the expeditions of the Missouri Botanical Garden in the isthmus, from the 1920's to the 1950's.

Here is the beautiful book cover:

Selvas entre Dos Mares

This book has dozens of pictures and illustrations. Copies of the book will be available for sale at about $12.95 per copy.

Our President, John W. Carlson, will not be present at the meeting as he is traveling these days. Any questions, please feel free to contact Carlos Hassán at chassan@panamahistoricalsociety.org
